INTRODUCTION

The Engine Protection Module takes the place of run and alarm relays and timers normally used with diesel engines.

On acceptance of a start signal a latching relay energises the govenor run solenoid and supplies a delayed signal to the starter motor pilot solenoid. Four latching alarm circuits become operative once the engine has reached speed. A timer inhibits alarms 2, 3 and 4 for up to 15 seconds during starting. Additionally alarm 4 has a 5 second delay. A by-pass switch enables the engine to be run with a signal on any circuit except number 1 (e.g. for fault finding). Normall alarm 1 which can not be inhibited or delayed is used for overspeed. An alarm signal will de-energise the run relay, activate the particular alarm indicator and energise the air shutoff mechanism( if fitted) shutting down the engine.

The alarm circuit must be reset, before restarting is possible.
