INTRODUCTION
The Auto start module (DE006) is used to automatically start-up and to bring on-line a standby generator set and then close it down when normal supply is restored.
Upon mains failure the auto-start module recieves a signal from the phase failure relay and energises a relay to begin cranking the engine. Should the engine fail to start after an elapsed preset cranking time, there is a pause equal in duration to the cranking period before another attempt is made. The multi-shot start is adjustable from 1 to 4 cranking periods and should the engine not start on the final attempt a signal from the auto-start can used to power an indicator light indicating start failure.
Once the engine has started the auto-start module senses the alternator voltage and at a preset level energises a relay, switching the main contactors and putting the standby unit online. On mains return the relay drops out, resetting the contactors and removing the load from the generator set. The engine then runs for the pre-set run-on period at no load allowing it to cool down safely to normal operating temperature. Once the run-on period has elapsed the auto start module signals the engine protection module to shut down the engine.
